The year 2021 was a year of losses, repairs and redevelopments. There were four important stages, consuming large financial resources.
Replacement of some Buxus hedges
In recent years, throughout Europe, Buxus have been affected by the attack of a butterfly which, in the absence of regular chemical treatments, leads to the complete destruction of plants. Those who decided not to use insecticides found a few hardy species to replace Buxus. Euonymus japonicus, Ilex crenata - are now among the favorites. We also started replacing hedges with Euonymus japonicus `Benkomasaki`, a permanent green, compact shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. The solution turned out to be good, the new plants are beautiful, resistant, unpretentious.
Lake bottom insulation solution replacement (approx. 2000 sqm)
We resumed a work - insulate the bottom of the lake, which was originally made of clay. As the variant was not effective, we now resorted to an additive B400 concrete, containing polypropylene fibers. We were told that this time there would be no more infiltrations.
Arrangement of events area, on the edge of the lake
The lake, with a water surface of about 3500 sqm, surrounded by mature vegetation (a maze of over 100 species of shrubs, a decorative edge over 250 m long and groups of trees and various conifers) is now a point important attraction of the garden. We decided to place in its vicinity a building that would allow the organization of small musical, gastronomic, leisure events. The unique shape of the lake, with an island and rounded shores, inspired the architect and we were delighted by the project.
Serious incident - vegetation fire
A company that we allowed to carry out leisure activities in the park (paintball, archery, birthdays, anniversaries), produced us, at the end of August, a large fire. The owner of this company used fire to burn some debris in his area, causing a fire that spread in the park on an area of 8 ha, destroying particularly valuable woody vegetation. The damage includes the labyrinth and the decorative edge near the lake, as well as a protective edge located at the street front, with a length of over 300 m. The destroyed plants were large, being planted between 2003-2007. The disappointment was great because it thwarted our effort to enhance the lake area. The owner of the guilty company did not show interest in helping to remedy the situation.
